Welcome! If you’re interested in business with me, you’ll probably find something you’re looking for below. If not, I’ll probably have something more for you in the future. Thanks for coming by!

Hello world! My name is Benjamin, but you can call me Ben. I am a junior at The Ohio State University studying computer science with a focus in autonomous perceptions. My research interest is RCNN inference and training on the edge, and currently I am working as an intern for the MLBX group at Amazon. I come with a wide variety of experience from esports to business though, so don’t hesitate to reach out and chat! I always like to meet new people.

If you’re hiring, I also am always open to new opportunities :)

Oh cool, you’ve decided to keep scrolling down. Probably means you’re interested in learning a little bit more about the work that I do. I can oblige.

My areas of work:

Project Management

Count on me to get your projects done start to finish. I most actively have been involved in project management in commercial application via DevOps, but I’ve been involved in agile development for some time, going back to my mid-teens when I was still working in game development. I’ve found the value in making sure every member of the team is able to handle their load and helping change the challenge accordingly.

Database Quality Control

Ever since I started Python, I found the value in keeping a good relationship with my database. With my high school capstone, I was processing thousands of spectrographs, which required me to think critically about how I labelled and graded my datasets. This experience paid dividends in my recent internship as a SCADA engineer, where I was tasked with cleaning up SQL storage and HTTP requests.

Sorting Algorithms and Simple Storage

Preparing data to be as modular as possible is essential to accurate data science. When I was picking up my first scientific computing packages, I found great value in making data that was easy to access first, and took up minimal storage second. I am familiar with a variety of techniques for ribboning data that can assist in transfer speeds and minimize unnecessary use of hard storage.

Event Coordination and Hosting

I have a wealth of experience in this area from work in esports here at The Ohio State University. I have hosted charity, outreach, socials, tournaments, formals, tryouts, and a bit more miscellaneous. Some of my most prominent saw in excess of 300 visitors. I can deal with a fair bit of stress, and handle a few dozen staff if necessary.

Partnerships

I have had the pleasure of working with some of the largest esports organizations in the nation, including Immortals and Gen.G, and some more traditional corporations too, including MSI & Riot Games.

Team Management & Coordination

In my previous position at the Buckeye Gaming Collective, I supervised 15 managers each responsible for their event or own genre specialty. I host meetings biweekly, and check in with them routinely as need. I help them do scheduling, advise them on assets, take on sponsorship needs on their behalf, and help them with setup and teardown if needed.

Some Relevant Skills

  • Python

My second and favorite language ‘cause I’m a lazy programmer. Who needs structs and pointers when I got classes and packages?

  • Java

My third and second favorite language. It’s got the tools I need to go where Python can’t within having to dig too much into the nitty-gritty of manually memory managed languages.

  • C(89)+

Yup, I got this one too, certainly not my favorite but sometimes you gotta get your nose close to the assembly to make sure it’s done right. Vim’s pretty cool too.

  • GNU/LINUX

I do know my way around a Linux terminal, at least I would hope anyways. Gotta be able to compile and run my C code without hitting segmentation faults somehow, yeah?

  • Solidworks

Believe it or not, I actually do have around 4 years of experience with this particular CAD package. What’s it to be a programmer if you can’t do your own hardware from time to time?

  • Microsoft Excel

If you’ve ever worked with data, you gotta know how to use Excel, I’m no exception. Although more often than not, I’ll strip them down to CSVs if I’m using them in conjunction with a program because openpyxl does not like data validation.

Quick Break.

Here’s a picture of a recent circuit I’ve been working on to trying to bring to life to emulate the magnetic field generated by magnetic card writers when swiped through (I hate carrying magnetic stripe cards because I can’t easily put them on a key ring). I’m considering drastically scaling up the current in a later version, but I would need to modify the circuit with an amp and probably some higher gauge wire (and insulation).

So what am I looking for?

Toeing the line between business and computer science for some time, I’ve decided why not both? I’m looking for opportunities in project management, venture capital specializing in tech, and engineering consulting on behalf of businesses. Preferably with a healthy work environment, friendly coworkers, and respectable compensation.
